The gray wolf population in Wyoming remained above federal minimum recovery criteria for the 21st consecutive year. According to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, the state had a minimum of 338 wolves in 41 packs across the state at the end of 2022.
That total includes 163 wolves in the Wolf Trophy Game Management Area, 108 wolves in Yellowstone National Park, 18 wolves in the Wind River Reservation, and 49 wolves in areas where wolves are designated primarily as predatory animals in Wyoming.
Biologists confirmed wolves killed or injured 97 head of livestock (46 cattle, 46 sheep, and five horses) statewide in Wyoming in 2022.
