The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation recognized four long-time sponsors at its 40th Anniversary Celebration.
Founded in 1945 by Roy Weatherby in California, he documented rapid-pace innovations to create a line of ammunition. That followed with the creation of the Mark V Action in 1958, designed to be a rifle that was a true extension of the shooter, and other designed rifles as well as scopes and binoculars that put Weatherby on the map. In 2017, Weatherby moved its operations to Sheridan, Wyoming, where it remains among the leaders of the outdoor industry.
Roy Weatherby supported RMEF early on by buying a full-page ad just inside the back cover of the first edition of Bugle magazine in the fall of 1984. That support continues to this day.
RMEF presented Weatherby CEO Adam Weatherby with a framed image of that initial ad (see bottom of post). Below are his words at the RMEF celebration.
My grandpa (Roy Weatherby) was an innovator and when he saw something that was going to do something pretty cool, he got behind it. And that was the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in 1984.
(RMEF President & CEO) Kyle (Weaver), you and I started working together in the 90s and to be here all these years later. (RMEF co-founder) Charlie (Decker), with you and with (RMEF co-founder) Bob Munson and with (RMEF Chief Revenue Officer) Steve (Decker) is an honor on behalf of the Weatherby family to be along with these other families on this journey. Thank you and we’re proud to be part of conserving these amazing animals and our habitat. Thank you, guys, so much. Appreciate it.
