MISSOULA, Mont. — The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation carried out vital conservation work in 2021 thanks to its dedicated partners who believe in its mission.
“We simply cannot do what we do without support and good work from our volunteers, members and our conservation partners,” said Riza Lesser, RMEF managing director of marketing. “We recognize and thank our sponsors who are industry leaders that help us ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage.”
Sponsors of RMEF’s Elk Country Legacy program, which reflects all aspects of RMEF’s mission, are Benelli, Browning, Grand View Outdoors, SCHEELS, Fiocchi and Winchester.
To date, RMEF opened or improved access to more than 1.4 million acres of public land. RMEF Access Elk Country sponsors are ALPS, Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s, Gerber, Kimber, Yamaha and Warne Scope Mounts.
In addition to helping dole out millions of dollars for nationwide habitat enhancement, below are a few of RMEF’s other 2021 conservation highlights.
Research – committed $180,000 to assist elk migration mapping
California – protected/opened access to 12,000 acres of elk habitat as part of 70,000-acre conservation strategy
Idaho – protected/opened access to 1,300 acres of remote elk country
New Mexico – protected/opened access to habitat & migration corridor
Oregon – protected/opened access to 4,600 acres of elk habitat in phase I of two-phase, 15,573-acre landscape-scale project
South Dakota – protected 1,000 acres of wildlife habitat
Utah – protected 4,900 acres of habitat & migration corridor for elk, deer
Wisconsin – prevented development & fragmentation of wildlife habitat
Wyoming – created easement to improve hunting access to more than 32,900 acres of elk habitat
