HELP PROTECT THE BEST TULE ELK HABITAT LEFT IN THE WORLD

A century ago, tule elk were down to the last seven on earth. Today there are more than 5,700. But that’s 1 percent of what roamed the state before the 1849 Gold Rush, and these unique elk found only in California still face major challenges from loss of habitat and connectivity. With your help, RMEF can forever protect an 11,902-acre expanse in one of the state’s wildest remaining regions.

This land has long formed both a gap in the Mendocino National Forest and a crucial bridge between the Yuki and Sanhedrin wilderness areas. Aptly named Elk Creek flows from the heart of the wilderness before joining the Wild & Scenic Middle Fork of the Eel River. This is the third big step toward the dream of protecting a 70,000‑acre block of outstanding habitat for elk, black-tailed deer, Pacific fishers, endangered Chinook and coho salmon and scores of other species.

So far we’ve helped secure nearly 36,000 acres along the Eel. But we need additional funding to protect the remainder. Your contribution will make a vital difference.
