A hunter who lives in Oklahoma is pleading for help after someone broke into his backyard and stole a massive elk mount from an animal he took in New Mexico five years earlier.
“We feel violated,” Robert Daniels told KFOR-TV. “Why would somebody do this?”
Daniels kept the mount on an outdoor fireplace in his backyard within a gated community. He believes someone broke in and stole it while he was not there. As a result, he’s offering a $1,000 reward leading to its return.
Daniels filed a police report valuing the mount at $20,000.
“It’s one of those deals I can’t replace no matter what,” Daniels lamented to KFOR-TV. “It just breaks my heart.”

In late 2022, someone stole the antlers from an Oregon hunter who had them in her backyard, preparing them to become a European mount. She appealed for help and law enforcement returned them to her just before Christmas.
