MISSOULA, Mont. — The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation carried out meaningful and measurable conservation work in 2020 thanks to strong support from its sponsors.
“We are able to accomplish our mission through the collective support of our volunteers, members, donors and our conservation partners,” said Steve Decker, RMEF chief revenue officer. “Our partners are leading brands in the outdoors industry. They see eye-to-eye with us in supporting our mission to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage. For that, we are extremely grateful.”
Sponsors of RMEF’s Elk Country Legacy program, which reflects all aspects of RMEF’s mission, include Browning, Grand View Media, Mossy Oak, Sportsman’s Guide and Winchester.
Since 1984, RMEF opened or improved access to more than 1.3 million acres of public land. Access Elk Country sponsors include ALPS, Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s, Bushnell, Gerber, Kimber and Yamaha.
Below is a sampling of RMEF’s 2020 conservation highlights.
Colorado – small project that improves access to 8,500 acres
Conservation Funding – played intimate role in the Land and Water Conservation Fund receiving full and permanent funding
Lifetime Milestone – topped 8 million acres in mission accomplishment
Michigan – assisted to protect/open access to 597 acres in the heart of the state’s elk range
Montana – 3,450-acre project protected/opened to public access
New Mexico – elk migration corridor protected/opened to public access
Research – 15 states received $5.6 million from RMEF & partners
Washington – 5,600-acre project protected/opened to public access
Wyoming – Grand Canyon of the Black Hills project opens/improves access to 12,000+ acres
