It is not an uncommon sight but it remains appreciated by those who live in and around Great Smoky National Park (GSNP). A small group of elk waded into the Oconaluftee River in Cherokee, North Carolina, just south of GSNP.
“The lady next to me said she had frequented this location but had not seen this many together before. It was a divine moment,” Laurie Grace Wood, who took the video, told WBIR-TV.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation assisted with the successful restoration of wild elk to their historic North Carolina range in 2001.
