Below is a Facebook post from the British Columbia Conservation Officer Service. For 2025, Fiocchi partnered with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to increase the visibility of poaching incidents in an effort to reduce poaching.
On the afternoon of August 30, 2025, conservation officers (COs) were alerted to the presence of a dead bull elk in the Squamish Valley near the Ashlu River.
COs attended a short time later and observed the elk now had its antlers sawed off. COs found evidence indicating the elk had been shot. The area where this occurred is a short distance from a provincial recreation site and several random camping areas.
COs believe the elk was shot between 10 p.m. on the 29th and 8 a.m. on the 30th. COs believe someone in the area may have witnessed the elk being shot or the antlers being cut off on the afternoon of the 30th.
