Below is a Facebook post from the Kentucky Division of Forestry.

Through the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF), the division was granted $3,500.00 for a timber stand improvement project, covering 10 acres on the lower slopes of Log Mountain on the Kentucky Ridge State Forest. The grant was used to fund a vendor who removed less desirable tree species like red maple, black gum and beech to help promote the regeneration and growth of more desirable species such as oak and hickory.

These trees are desirable to the forest industry and wildlife for their production of lumber and hard mast. The project took approximately two weeks and was completed near the end of October this year.

The division would like to thank RMEF for their contribution to the enhancement of the eastern Kentucky woodlands and more specifically to our State Forests. This contribution will be beneficial to the forest industry and wildlife for years to come.
