It is a fitting acronym. WOW is short for Washington Outdoor Women, a unique program designed specifically for women who live in Washington to achieve confidence and self-reliance in the outdoors through traditional and relevant skills taught in hands-on workshops.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is a longtime advocate of the program, first offering scholarship support back in 1999. That financial backing continues more than a quarter century later.
Registration for the 2025 Fall Weekend Workshop in North Bend to take place Sept. 12-14 is now open with RMEF supplying grant dollars to pay for partial scholarships to help reduce the overall cost. Activities include three four-hour classes featuring archery, backpacking, seafood preparation, fly fishing (pre-purchased fishing license required), fire building, knot tying, wildlife and native plant identification, survival skills, first aid and more. Participants will make two choices from a drop-down list for each session. They may also reserve cabin accommodations or bring their own tent and camping equipment.
Registrants must be at least 18 years of age. Class sizes are limited. The registration deadline is September 1.
