The seasonal migration held true to form. Late this summer, some 250 kids of all ages, along with scores of parents, once again flocked onto the grounds of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation headquarters for the annual RMEF Youth Experience.
RMEF staffers served as volunteers and manned stations ranging from a fishing pond and fish-cleaning station to archery, BB gun shooting, wall climbing, animal identification, hands-on fly fishing, bear safety, conservation and much more. Participants also were treated to a free lunch and ice cream, returning home with a backpack and many other prizes related to the outdoors.
“Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation put on the best youth event I’ve ever been to,” stated one social media post.
“My two boys and their friend had an amazing time,” wrote another.
“What an amazing day,” said RMEF Visitor Center Lead Nick Bishop. “It was great to see so many smiles on so many faces. Not only did the kids have the chance to take part in several recreational activities, but they also left with a greater understanding of RMEF, wildlife, hunting and conservation.”
Midway USA supplied funding for the activity, and many other organizations and businesses also offered their services.
